Artist Biography

Wong Hau Kwei was born in Chongqing, China in 1946. He graduated from China Textile University in 1969, and moved to Hong Kong in 1978. Wong learned painting from Huang Zhou during the 1970s. He was a visiting artist of Shenzhen Fine Art Institute. Wong is currently a researcher in Chinese Painting Research Institute of China National Academy of Painting, a board member of Chinese Painting Institute and a member of the China Artists Association.

He received numbers of awards, including Hong Kong Contemporary Art Biennial Award in 2001 and 2009 ; Secretary for Home Affairs’ Commendations in 2010 and 2013 ; National Exhibition of Arts in China Award in 1999 and 2004 and Hong Kong Achievement Award in Contemporary Art in 2012. His works have been collected by The National Art Museum of China, Beijing, China ; Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong, China ; Shenzhen Art Institute, Shenzhen, China ; Guan Shanyue Art Museum, Shenzhen, China and Chinese Painting Institute, Beijing, China. The work “Moving Clouds and Water in the Three Gorges” was published in the catalogue “Chinese Art in the 20th Century” by The National Art Museum of China.
