ZUO XIAOKANG

 

Artist Biography

Zuo Xiaokang (b. 1979, Henan, China) graduated with a B.A. from the Chinese Painting Department of Central China Normal University in Hubei. He also received an M.A. in Chinese Landscape Painting Department of School of Fine Arts, Southwest University in 2008 and 2012 respectively. Zuo further pursued his studies at the Department of Painting and Calligraphy Arts in National Taiwan University of Arts in 2018.

Works of Zuo Xiaokang would always use ink rendering and colours on silk as the primary medium as silk can provide a smoother surface for brushwork and dyeing. Stars, moon, mountains and clouds are the core themes of his paintings. The usage of cyan, ochre, cinnabar, white powder and ink acts as matching colours; such harmonious colours is to echo with the atmosphere of ‘solitary’ and ‘mood’. When you are looking at the paintings of Zuo, you would have the feeling of passing through clouds, flying over rugged mountains, and glancing precisely at the resting nature under the night sky.

Zuo is currently taking a teaching position at Chinese Painting Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute.
