Eddie Lui (aka LV Fengya in Putonghua) was born in Hong Kong in 1947 at a time when the-then British Crown Colony was recovering from the deprivations of war and facing a huge influx of refugees from Mainland China. He completed in 1972 a three-year visual arts programme with the Department of Extra-mural Studies (now SPACE, the School of Professional and Continuing Education) at The University of Hong Kong. And he chose to spend a further year taking a specialized Sunday programme in contemporary ink art conducted by Lui Shou-kwan, Wucius Wong and Laurence C.S. Tam, at the same institution.
His artworks are included in the permanent collection of the M+, Hong Kong; The Hong Kong Museum of Art; The Hong Kong Heritage Museum; University Museum and Art Gallery, The University of Hong Kong; Hong Kong Arts Centre; The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts; The MTR Corporation, Hong Kong; the Hong Kong Jockey Club; the Hongkong Land Limited and other cultural bodies and corporations and private collectors.
