Born in 1963, in Fuzhou City, China. Lam TianXing, was named Lam Sin by his parents at birth. Since 1978, he has studied Chinese paintings and Western paintings with painters Wu Guoguang, Lin Guang, Chen Ting and Liu Muzhu. After moving to Hong Kong in 1984, he continued his creative Chinese painting and was active in Hong Kong's art world. In 1987, his work was selected as one of the winning piece for the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Biennale.
In 1989, he went to the north of China to continue his studies at the School of Chinese Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and was taught by several well established professors, namely, Zhang Ping (張憑), Huang Runhua (黃潤華), Li Xingjian (李行簡), Jia Youfu (賈又福), Lu Shen (盧沈), Zhou Sicong (周思聰), Han Guozhen (韓國臻), Guo Yizhen (郭怡孮) and Wang Yong (王鏞).
The systematic education of college training laid a solid, broad and diverse foundation for Lin Tianxing’s creative painting. Around the same time, in the late 1980s, influenced by Western modern art trends, Lam TianXing gradually began to explore his own individualised language in art. He deconstructed the elements of Chinese painting and sought the contemporary meaning of traditional landscape painting in the stripped colours and compositions. However, during the process of experimenting, he retains the use of brush strokes and ink and inherits the soul and essence of Chinese painting. Thus, he opened up a new unique field of vision in which the tradition ink and colour are transformed to become contemporary. The range of this, and his, influence in ink colour painting was wide and extensive.
Lam has held more than 50 solo exhibitions in many major cities around the world, i.e. Beijing, Hong Kong, New York, Berlin, Bremen, Milan, Singapore, Taipei, Seoul and other places.
