WU SHANG-YUNG
Artist Biography
Wu, Shang-Yung was born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1988. In 2015, he obtained Master of Painting and Calligraphy Arts from Taiwan University of Arts. During his studies, he went to University of Tsukuba in Japan to study Mineral Pigment Painting. Wu was the chairman of the 12th Association of the Visual Arts in Taiwan and was named an Outstanding Alumnus of NTUA in 2023. He currently lives and creates in Taipei.
Having long been devoted to paintings, images, and installations, Wu’s works feature the deconstruction of daily phenomena and the dialects of inertial logic, which explores the shift of the essence with diverse and non-linear thinking. Wu’s creative expression combines eastern philosophies of Zhuangzi and Laozi, visual psychology and sociology. He endeavors to construct tranquil and poetic surrealistic realms through the rich entwinement of spiritual insights and thoughts.
